The Shocking and Stunning

The Shocking and Stunning are Jack Hooker (synths/sampler/effects) and Sam Lovrich-FitzPatrick (drums). Described by Martyn Pepperell in VanguardRed Magazine as “emotive, physically propulsive and above all, f***ing epic”, they combine densely layered synths and heavy live drums to build up and tear down walls of sound.​

Active in Aotearoa’s underground scene for many years, they’ve toured widely around New Zealand and Australia, appeared at festivals including Twisted Frequency, Camp A Low Hum, Rhythm and Alps, Chronophonium, and Welcome to Nowhere (among many others), and played countless house parties. Their output includes a studio album, live album, six EPs, various singles/music videos, a documentary score, and collaborations with rappers including Tourettes and Name UL.

Although no longer as active, the band continues to perform sporadically throughout Aotearoa.
